Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes your blood sugar level to become too high.
There are a number of different types of diabetes, the most common of which are:

TYPE 1 - where the body's immune system attacks and destroys the cells that produce insulin.

TYPE 2 - where the body does not produce enough insulin, or the body's cells do not react to insulin1.

The numbers of people affected by diabetes are worrying: over 4.7 million in the UK, including almost 1 million people who don’t know they have it, because they haven’t been diagnosed yet2. Over 90% of those affected are living with type 1.

Over a long period of time, high glucose levels in your blood can seriously damage your heart, eyes, feet and kidneys. However, with the right treatment and care, you can live a full, independent life after being diagnosed3.
