However, for those managing allergies, it can be challenging to navigate traditional recipes that often contain allergens. This Allergy Awareness Week, MedicAlert is sharing easy, allergy-safe festive recipes that are as inclusive as they are delicious. Why Allergy-Safe Treats Are So Important Allergies affect millions of people, making celebrations like Easter tricky for families. From nuts and dairy to gluten and eggs, allergens can exclude people from enjoying the festivities. But with a little care and creativity, you can whip up treats that everyone can safely enjoy. Each of these recipes highlights the allergens they are free from, so you can find the right one for your needs. Allergy-Friendly Easter Recipes 1. Chocolate Crispy Nests These no-bake nests are a classic Easter favourite! Allergy Information: Free from: Dairy, nuts, gluten, eggs, soya Ingredients: 100g dairy-free dark chocolate 2 tbsp golden syrup 3 tbsp sunflower seed butter or coconut oil 75g gluten-free puffed rice or cornflakes Allergy-friendly mini eggs (or dried fruit) for decoration Method: Melt the chocolate, golden syrup, and sunflower seed butter (or coconut oil) in a heatproof bowl over simmering water. Stir in the puffed rice or cornflakes until fully coated. Spoon the mixture into cupcake cases, shaping into small nests. Decorate with mini eggs or dried fruit. Chill in the fridge for 1-2 hours until firm. 2. Mini Lemon Easter Loaves Bright, zesty, and perfect for spring! Allergy Information: Free from: Gluten, dairy, nuts, eggs, soya Ingredients: 200g gluten-free self-raising flour 100g caster sugar Zest of 2 lemons 200ml oat milk (or another plant-based milk) 75ml vegetable oil 1 tsp vanilla extract Method: Preheat your oven to 180°C (160°C fan). Grease a mini loaf tin or muffin tin. Combine the flour, sugar, and lemon zest in a bowl. Mix the oat milk, oil, and vanilla in a jug, then pour into the dry ingredients. Stir until smooth. Divide the batter between the tin compartments and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a skewer comes out clean. Allow to cool, then drizzle with a simple icing made from icing sugar and lemon juice. 3. Vegan Carrot Cake Muffins A fresh take on a classic Easter dessert. Allergy Information: Free from: Gluten, dairy, nuts, eggs, soya Ingredients: 150g gluten-free self-raising flour 100g grated carrot 75g brown sugar 1 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp baking powder 200ml almond-free plant-based milk (e.g., oat milk) 50ml vegetable oil Method: Preheat your oven to 180°C (160°C fan) and line a muffin tin. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, cinnamon, and baking powder. Stir in the grated carrot. Add the milk and oil, then mix until just combined.
